Project Overview
Aerospace Bristol Museum hosts occasional one-off music events within a unique exhibition environment that includes the Concorde aircraft. The site is subject to increasing noise sensitivity due to nearby residential development, creating a need to understand typical music noise levels in a context where no fixed event noise limits were imposed.
Kimber Acoustics was appointed to undertake noise monitoring to quantify event noise levels and provide objective evidence to inform future management of music events at the site.
Scope of Acoustic Services
Our work involved attended noise measurements during a live music event to characterise sound levels generated under representative operating conditions. The presence of large exhibition structures, including the Concorde aircraft, and limited access to repeatable monitoring positions required a pragmatic and carefully considered measurement strategy.
Data collected during the event was used to establish typical music noise levels and to assess potential implications for nearby and future noise-sensitive receptors.
Outcome
The monitoring programme provided clear, defensible evidence of music event noise levels in a complex and constrained environment. This information supported informed decision-making around future events and provided a baseline understanding of noise impact in the context of emerging residential development nearby.
