Location
Elephant & Castle, London
Project Type
Planning Noise Assessment
Estimated Value
£3 million
Scale
Approximately 720 m² of B8 use with 150 m² of C4 use
Project Overview
The Brandon Street proposal formed part of a mixed-use development within a tightly controlled urban location subject to strict noise policy under Southwark Council guidance. The introduction of a proposed leisure-related B8 unit with noise-sensitive C4 accommodation above required careful assessment to demonstrate that the uses could coexist acceptably.
Kimber Acoustics was appointed to undertake a planning-stage noise assessment to identify and manage potential acoustic risk arising from the proposed layout and use arrangement.
Scope of Acoustic Services
Our work included assessment of baseline ambient noise conditions and evaluation of noise generated by the proposed B8 use, with particular focus on protecting the amenity of the proposed C4 accommodation above. Detailed acoustic modelling was undertaken to predict internal and external noise impact, supported by mitigation planning and layout advice to reduce transmission risk.
The assessment was developed in close alignment with Southwark Council guidance to ensure that conclusions were proportionate, transparent, and defensible within the planning process.
Outcome
The recommended mitigation measures and layout refinements reduced perceived planning risk and helped adapt the proposal to address local authority concerns. Our input supported the planning application by demonstrating that the proposed uses could operate compatibly within the mixed-use scheme.
