Project Overview
Granita Court is a mixed-use building with commercial accommodation at ground floor level and residential dwellings above. A proposed nursery use within one of the commercial units introduced new noise-sensitive and noise-generating activities in close proximity to existing homes, requiring careful assessment to demonstrate acceptable impact.
Kimber Acoustics was appointed to assess potential noise effects associated with the nursery use and to support the planning application through proportionate, defensible acoustic input.
Scope of Acoustic Services
Our work included assessment of noise arising from indoor and outdoor nursery activities, development of a noise management plan, and design of source and boundary mitigation measures. Acoustic modelling was undertaken to predict off-site impact and to demonstrate that appropriate controls could be implemented to protect nearby residential amenity.
The assessment was structured to address planning policy requirements while supporting the client’s safeguarding and operational responsibilities.
Outcome
The proposed mitigation strategy demonstrated that the nursery use could operate acceptably within the mixed-use residential context. Our input supported the planning process and provided a clear framework for managing noise in use, balancing residential amenity with the functional needs of the nursery.
