Project Overview
The Worcester Community Hall refurbishment presented a combination of acoustic challenges typical of older multi-use buildings. Excessive reverberation within the main hall affected speech intelligibility and usability, while weak internal sound insulation limited simultaneous use of adjacent spaces.
Kimber Acoustics was appointed to assess existing conditions and provide proportionate acoustic improvement advice suitable for retrofit within a constrained and occupied building.
Scope of Acoustic Services
Our work included site surveys and analysis to quantify reverberation characteristics and identify sound transmission paths between spaces. Retrofit solutions were developed to address both internal room acoustics and sound insulation performance, taking account of limited available space and budgetary constraints.
Costed options were provided for reverberation reduction measures and targeted wall upgrades, allowing the client to compare effectiveness and affordability before proceeding.
Outcome
The recommended strategy provided a clear, practical route to improving acoustic performance without unnecessary disruption. A contractor was appointed based on our advice, enabling the community centre to progress refurbishment works with confidence that the hall would better support its intended uses.
